HERE Maps (free | Android | iPhone): This navigation app lets you download maps of all countries in the world before your trip begins, so that you are able to navigate around the world without the need of mobile internet. The app is perfectly suitable for use as a car navigation system.
Maps.me (free | Android | iPhone):
This app also allowes you to download all the needed maps before your travels and use them afterwards without internet connection. Compared to HERE Maps it´s not that much suitable for car navigation, but awesome for navigation in cities. The used map is based on OpenStreetMap, so it contains many POis (“Point of Interests”). Sights, Restaurants, Accomodations, ATMs, hiking paths, … this app has it all. Furthermore you are able to set pins on the map, so that you can hightlight all the sights you want to visit before your citytrips. That´s how you can be sure not to miss out anything. 🙂

MobileVOIP (free | Android | iPhone): The MobileVOIP app allows you to make cheap calls worldwide via Internet. A call to landlines and mobiles in most countries of the world costs between one and ten cents per minute, so you can make cheap calls when you’re traveling – whether it’s a phone call to your family in Germany, the car rental company in Australia or the airline in the USA. All you need is a VOIP account, which is available from several providers. We use FreeVOIPDeal and are very satisfied with this provider. Simply register with the provider, load credit on your account via bank transfer or Paypal, enter your access data into the app and you are ready to call.
