In the afternoon we are heading to Mahébourg together with René, Hana and Aneta, who we met in our resort. From Blue Bay you simply take the bus. If you are unsure about where’s your stop, bus drivers and ticket vendors are very helpful.
After a short drive we reach the central bus station and walk to the coast.
Along the way we visit a small Hindu temple and talk to several locals.
There is a lot going on in the central market of Mahebourg. The vendors present their goods under a huge tent roof and in the narrow corridors we squeeze our way past the locals.
You don’t see that many tourists, but the small, colourful and crowded market is an authentic experience, which you shouldn’t miss. The market takes place every day, but on Mondays it is twice as big.
After that we make our way to the mobile phone shop to buy a sim card. Orange offers 1GB for 400 MUR, but you should have your passport with you to be able to buy it. We continue to stroll through the streets of Mahébourg and do some shopping in the supermarket.
The “London Way” supermarket between Blue Bay and Mahébourg is the largest in the area and has almost everything. For a quick snack you can try delicious Indian samoussas.
The bus, which you can simply flag down from anywhere – which we find very practical 🙂 – will take you back to Blue Bay. Arrived there we have dinner in our favourite snack bar.
We spend the rest of the evening lying on sun loungers by the sea – together with wine and rum 😉
